Cliff Richard's Tour With Boy George

When Cliff Richard's commence with his latest tour accompanied by Una Stubbs and her wholesome chums. The most unlikely part of this tour was that he was joined by Boy George.

It was decided that the Bachelor Boy, 70, is to start tour of Germany with Boy George, 49, the cross-dressing Eighties star, who was in prison for reacting rude against rude false imprisonment of a male escort.

"What on earth is he doing?" asks one of Sir Cliff's loyal fans. "When he can fill arenas round the globe, why does he need to headline a tour on which Boy George also features?

Sir Cliff, a committed Christian, will perform some of his best songs in next month's tour at the Night of the Proms festival. As well as Boy George, whose band Culture Club enjoyed hits including Church of the Poison Mind, the line-up will also feature Kid Creole and the Coconuts, who are best known for the song Annie, I'm Not Your Daddy.

Bill Latham, Sir Cliff's agent, is keen to stress: "They won't, actually, ever be sharing a stage, or anything else, for that matter."

Cliff Richard Fan Club

I am right up in the gods, in standing room only, so I can’t hear a word he’s saying. I can only hear a faint boom and, at one point the word “Brian”, which, when taken out of context, can be very mysterious. A few fans have red light sabers, which they waggle around. This looks completely obscene. But Cliff has the gift of inciting, and then ignoring his fans’ obscenities. He bops around, dancing with four crazy women in the front row, who are waving a banner saying “What a Knight”. At the end of every song he turns away from the audience and wiggles his bottom. This is horrible.

Other fans coo at me: “He’s very family orientated.” But he doesn’t have a family. He lives with a man. “Only because it didn’t work out with Olivia Newton John,” they say back, “Or Sue Barker.”

Cliff actually looks like Tony – they have the same mad, flat, nylon smile. He also has a disturbing resemblance to Lionel Blair, which upsets me because I once interviewed Lionel in his dressing room and his robe fell open. So whenever I think about Cliff Richard, I think about Lionel Blair naked.

think I am the only person in Britain who hates Cliff Richard. I feel awful about this because he gives a lot of money to charity and is clearly a nice person, even if he is so friendly with Tony Blair that he lent him his villa in Barbados because Blair looked “dwindled” after invading Iraq. Dwindled, by the way, is not an adjective. I checked.

Harmless, you say? Well, yes, and I wouldn’t think of actually banning it. But I still don’t like it. One of the fans has actually touched the bottom. She won a competition in Take a Break magazine, which meant she got to go backstage and meet him and she touched his bottom. You do know that is assault, don’t you? What did he do? “Nothing.”

I’m not getting anywhere with analyzing his appeal. For example, I speak to the Cliff Richard Fan Club – Hong Kong branch, who are here en masse. They are in matching windbreakers and they explain that in Hong Kong he is bigger than Elvis. So, why do you love Cliff Richard? And please don’t say, “He breathes.” That will upset me. The Cliff Richard Fan Club – Hong Kong branch look at me impassively and say, “He sings so…..well.” Argh! That is not an analysis!

Cliff Richard: I was attacked twice on West Cliff Drive

As You See It. I was walking on West Cliff Richard Drive between the Dream Inn and the surfer statue. Past me a red car drove, I heard an inarticulate yell and I was struck on the wrist by a heavy, 3-inch stone that had been thrown from the car.
Six days later, I was walking on the same portion of West Cliff Richard. At 11:15 p.m., three cars drove past. I heard an inarticulate yell from passengers in a dark SUV, put up my hands for protection, and a large, L-shaped block of wood now in police possession struck me squarely on the knuckles. I no longer feel safe walking on West Cliff Richard in the late evening. I encourage anyone who does to exercise caution, especially in places where there is nothing to shield pedestrians from projectiles that might be thrown at them by potentially sadistic motorists.

Cliff Richard ordered to knock down conservatory

Sir Cliff Richard has been ordered to pull down a £30,000-pound conservatory at his Surrey mansion after losing a battle with planning officials.

The singer hoped to be awarded retrospective planning permission for the 17-foot extension, which he built in 2006, after Runnymede Council last year told him he had breached the rules.
Now the council has dismissed his appeal against its decision. Sir Cliff now has until March 9 to demolish the structure.

Dave Farrell, Sir Cliff's planning consultant, called the demolition order 'a bit silly'. 'We're disappointed but it's just one of those things,' he added.

Sir Cliff knocked down a bungalow on his Wentworth estate in Virginia Water to build a large mansion and planning rules allowed his new home 30 per cent more area than the original house.
The conservatory was built in 2006, but was deemed to make the new property too big. It was noticed by officials when Sir Cliff Richard put the house up for sale last year for £1.35 million.
Though he applied retrospectively for planning permission, he was turned down.
